Newcastle United face Arsenal this evening in what could be their toughest test of the season.

If Eddie Howe’s side can earn a point, or even all three, it would cement their status as Champions League contenders.

A report from 90min suggests they’re keen to continue adding players to their ever-improving squad.

The Magpies made some very sensible signings in the summer that have elevated their squad.

Sven Botman has been a rock in defence, with Nick Pope leading the league for clean sheets behind him.

The arrival of Kieran Trippier and Bruno Guimaraes six months earlier set the club on the right course.

Newcastle are keen to add more top players to their ranks in the near future.

Leicester City pair Youri Tielemans and James Maddison are both under consideration.

Newcastle could still bid for Leandro Trossard too, despite the fact the Belgian just had his contract extended.

The ‘unreal’ winger is now due to stay on the south coast until 2024.

Newcastle could bid for Trossard in January

The report from 90min suggests that, ‘if Newcastle believe Trossard is attainable this month, they could very well make an offer. But Brighton are showing few signs of wanting to sell.’

It’s no surprise that Brighton don’t want to let Trossard go in January.

Although they are experts are finding the best transfer deals around the world, the winter market is a hard one to recruit well in.

It’s also why Newcastle could bid for Trossard this month, as they would be bringing in a player who already knows the Premier League.

The form of Miguel Almiron, Allan Saint-Maximin, and when called upon Joelinton mean it may be hard for Trossard to get into Newcastle’s team.

However, his arrival would allow Joelinton to shift back into his more natural role in midfield.

Valued at around £30m, Trossard has made it clear in the past he would be happy to move on from Brighton.

He failed to rule out a reunion with Graham Potter at Chelsea in November.

Trossard is a brilliant player, and at 28 should be at his peak right now.

He would very much be a signing for the present at St. James’ Park, and Newcastle will be keen to act if the opportunity arises this month.
