The continued search for a new manager at Newcastle is ongoing and a new name has been added to the list of potential Steve Bruce replacements, this time, in the form of ex-Arsenal boss, Unai Emery.

That’s according to the Daily Mail, who claim that Emery is now one of the names on what is becoming an increasingly long list of candidates to take the job at St James’ Park.

Bruce, although being in line to take charge this weekend, is still expected to be relieved of his duties by PIF and Amanda Staveley. He will reach 1000 games this weekend, before likely being moved on.

A number of names have been mentioned already. The Mail suggests Roberto Martinez is on the list as well. Others, such as Brendan Rodgers, have been ruled out this week, while Rafa Benitez is also said to be staying with Everton.

Emery, meanwhile, has enjoyed resounding success in Europe. He’s won the Europa League four times, including last season with Villarreal. However, his spell in England with Arsenal did not go too well.

Further, the Mail adds that both Emery and Martinez are said to have reservations about the Newcastle job.

TBR’s View: Emery a good name to add to the mix

While it might not have gone swimmingly at Arsenal, there is no doubt Emery has the record to succeed at Newcastle.

He could be just what they need. A manager who knows how to get into and win in Europe, but without huge pressures of getting into the Champions League. Certainly, last season’s win over Manchester United showed he knows how to win big games.

Newcastle will make a decision sooner or late here. And in Unai Emery, they might have someone in mind who could just bring success to the Northeast.
