Report: Newcastle considering move to sign Juventus midfielder Aaron Ramsey

Italian website Tutto Juve have claimed that Newcastle United are ready to tempt Aaron Ramsey with a return to the Premier League, after the Welshman endured a difficult spell in his first season with the Old Lady.

Ramsey, 29, joined Juventus on a free transfer last summer from Arsenal but has scored just four goals in 35 league and cup appearances for the Italian champions. He helped Juve win the league, but he struggled.

Given his enormous £400,000-a-week wages (BBC), Juve could be looking to cash in on 58-time Wales international Ramsey. A return to the Premier League could be on the cards, and Newcastle are being linked.

Even though a takeover has hit the skids, the report claims Newcastle are ready to spend £18million to sign Ramsey. It is also claimed that Ramsey would be given the same contract at Newcastle.

But for Newcastle to pay Ramsey similar wages as to what he is earning at Juventus is very unlikely, given their current best-paid player in Jonjo Shelvey does not exceed £100,000 a week. Ramsey is unlikely to be tempted.

TBR’s view – Ramsey would be a stunning signing, but no chance

Ramsey would be a stunning signing for most Premier League sides – let alone one that finished in the bottom half of the Premier League table, who failed to qualify for European football.

But for Newcastle to spend a sizeable transfer fee of £18million and then match his wages, is hugely unlikely. If a takeover had gone through, then it would make more sense.

Even if Newcastle meet Ramsey’s terms, surely he would rather remain at Juventus.
