Newcastle United are reportedly interested in signing Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher, who is a loan target for a number of clubs this summer.
According to the Northern Echo, the Magpies have picked out the 20-year-old as someone they want to bring to St James’ Park on loan for next season.
The report explains that Steve Bruce’s side have signalled their interest to Chelsea in the England Under-21 international, but Crystal Palace and West Ham are also some of the eight teams hopeful of negotiating a deal for him.
It is claimed that Newcastle are determined to try bring Gallagher to the club, after he made an impressive impact in the Championship last season during loan spells at both Charlton Athletic and Swansea City.
Ex-Newcastle player and now Charlton boss Lee Bowyer delivered a raving review of him when he left the Valley in January to join Swansea.
“For someone so young, he’s a great talent to work with and I wish him all the best for his future,” Bowyer said, as quoted by Charlton’s official website.
If Newcastle can’t operate with a big transfer budget this summer, they may have to rely on some shrewd pieces of business to try improve their squad and there may be some real gems in the loan market.
Gallagher is an in-demand central midfielder that could add some extra creative flair in Newcastle’s midfield and there is no doubt he deserves a chance in the Premier League.
He’s a midfield playmaker that managed 11 assists across all competitions last season and has an eye for goal, plus he’s got the kind of work-rate that would make him a big favourite with Magpies supporters.
