Newcastle United are growing increasingly confident that they will sign Joe Willock on loan from Arsenal before the transfer window shuts, according to The Sun’s live transfer blog (1/2; 11:22).
Willock appears to have come onto the Magpies’ radar in the final days of the window. The Daily Mail reported at the weekend that the 21-year-old was at the top of Steve Bruce’s list of targets.

It was suggested by the Mail that Arsenal had reservations about loaning Willock to Newcastle. The Gunners are expecting to loan Ainsley Maitland-Niles out, and they are seemingly wary of losing two potential midfield options.
Willock has started twice in the league. But he has been on the bench for Mikel Arteta’s men on a number of occasions. So he is obviously not that far away from a chance.

However, it now appears that he is set to spend the rest of the season out on loan.
The Sun have reported on their live transfer blog (1/2; 11:22) that Newcastle are growing confident that they will sign Willock on loan before the deadline passes.
It is noted that Newcastle now find themselves in pole position to sign the midfielder.
Arteta may feel that letting Willock could prove a gamble. But he is arguably at a stage in his career where he could do with playing more regularly.
Newcastle are a huge club. And they will be hoping that their 2-0 win at Everton at the weekend proves to be a catalyst for a major upturn in form.
