The Telegraph have claimed that Newcastle United are ‘confident’ of extending Javier Manquillo’s contract at St. James’ Park despite his current deal due to end on June 30 – amid interest from Premier League clubs.
Manquillo, 26, has become first choice on the right side of late – with Steve Bruce having been impressed by the former Liverpool and Sunderland defender. His three-year deal, signed in 2017, is about to expire.
The report states that Southampton, Crystal Palace and Spanish side Real Betis are all interested in luring him away from the north east. But Newcastle’s stance has been made clear, with Bruce keen to keep the Spaniard.
It is believed that talks between the club and Manquillo’s representatives have progressed of late, and the £4.5million Rafa Benitez signing could now extend his £35,000-a-week contract – rather than look for pastures new.

TBR’s view – Is Manquillo worth keeping?
DeAndre Yedlin’s form and struggles with injury this season have seen the United States international linked with an exit in the coming months – and certainly, a new deal for Manquillo would strengthen those claims.
New signing and Sweden cap Emil Krafth has also failed to match Manquillo’s form, though he is likely to be given the benefit of the doubt given it was his first season in English football. Manquillo is certainly worth keeping.
