Newcastle United are on the verge of finalising a deal for Reagan Thomson, according to The Daily Record.

Queen’s Park are locked in discussions with Newcastle over a fee for Thomson. The Scottish lower division side seem resigned to losing their prized asset but will hold out for a big fee.

Newcastle are edging closer to completing this deal. This report claims that Queen’s Park are confident of receiving a “substantial” sum for Thomson, who has come through the ranks with the Scottish League Two outfit.

Thomson is a highly-rated young player who has been watched by Celtic and Rangers. But it looks like the Magpies will win the race for the 16-year-old ahead of a potential January switch.

Despite his young age, Thomson is already operating in central midfielder for the Queen’s Park first-team. The Scotland U17 starlet has caught the eye for club and country and will now join a Premier League academy.

Newcastle still need to finalise this deal, though. Queen’s Park are not usually entitled to money for their players because they are an amateur club but Thomson is a different case because he is a youth player and they will be owed compensation.

TBR’s view

Thomson looks like a lively talent for the future. At such a young age, he is already showing that he can play senior football. This will prepare him well when he joins Newcastle.

The teenager will almost certainly go into the academy set-up at Newcastle – rather than the first-team. But the youthful Scotsman might be a first-team star of the future if he fulfils his potential.
