Italian outlet TuttoMercatoWeb have claimed that Newcastle United are set to send representatives to Italy in order to thrash out a move for Sampdoria centre-back Omar Colley in the next few days.
Colley, 27, has become a regular in Sampdoria’s side this season – missing two of Sampdoria’s Serie A matches this season. The 12-time Gambia international has been impressive for the Italian top-tier outfit.
Newcastle have plenty of options at centre-back but given that Steve Bruce has adopted Rafa Benitez’s three-man defence, he needs multiple sources of cover. Another central defender then would be a wise move, especially given Jamaal Lascelles’ injury.
The report claims Toon respresentatives will travel to Italy in the coming days in order to meet with Sampdoria over a move for Colley, who Newcastle are said to like and have watched multiple times over the last few months.

TBR’s view – Would Colley be a good signing for Newcastle?
Colley has proven in Serie A that he is capable of playing, and impressing, at that level. Against Juventus, he helped his side push the Italian champions close to dropping points – Juve eventually winning 2-1 on December 18.
He boasts plenty of speed, but enormous strength that sees him cope with a whole host of different types of strikers. Whether he is worth pursuing is purely down to the fee. He has a contract until the summer of 2022.
