Newcastle United are reportedly interested in signing Brighton defender Ben White.

The 22-year-old enforcer has been in brilliant form so far this season in the Championship, where he’s been thriving during a loan with Leeds United.

According to the Chronicle, Newcastle are “keeping tabs” on the centre-back following his performances.

The report explains that he’s valued around £20million and Premier League leaders Liverpool are also keen on him.

White has arguably been the standout defender in the Championship this campaign with Leeds and he looks destined to play at an elite level.

He’s a no-nonsense centre-back with real strength and power, but on the flip side he reads the game well and is great in possession.

TBR’s View:

White will return to Brighton next summer as it stands with an improved reputation and that will only continue if he can earn Leeds promotion.

He’s got all the qualities needed to be a top centre-back and he’s an exciting target for Newcastle to have on their radar.

But Steve Bruce already has several quality options in the heart of the Newcastle defence and it’s the one area of the pitch where they are the strongest.

It’s in the more creative areas that the Magpies need to improve and links with defenders should not be a priority for them.
