Report: Newcastle boss Steve Bruce went to watch Peterborough’s Siriki Dembele

Newcastle United manager Steve Bruce went to watch Peterborough United winger Siriki Dembele yesterday.

According to the Shields Gazette, the Ivorian was the subject of his interest after he was pictured at their game against Crewe Alexandre at Gresty Road, alongside son Alex.

Dembele has enjoyed a good start to the 2020/21 season, scoring five goals and making four assists in League One so far.

It seems Bruce is already getting to work on potential incomings in January, having had a fairly quiet summer.

Newcastle brought in Jeff Hendrick, Jamal Lewis, Ryan Fraser, Callum Wilson and goalkeeper Mark Gillespie, and it seems the 59-year-old is ready to spend again.

In addition to Fraser, Newcastle don’t have too many wide options other than Allan Saint-Maximin, Jacob Murphy and Matt Ritchie.

Peterborough director of football Barry Fry has previously said: “We have no interest in selling Siriki.

“We have had bids for him, but they’ve all been rejected because the manager, the co-owners and myself agreed we would not sell another player this season after Ivan Toney.”

TBR’s View – One to watch for Newcastle fans

Dembele is a name that is unlikely to get a lot of Newcastle fans excited for the next transfer window, but it seems Bruce is keen and his form is worth keeping an eye on from here.

He’s been performing well in League One but of course, potentially stepping up to the Premier League from there would a big deal.

The Magpies probably do need one more attacking reinforcement and if Dembele is to be that man then hopefully he’ll get the support of the fans.
