Report: Newcastle are struggling to afford 23-year-old, he could now sign for Aston Villa
Newcastle United could struggle to sign Axel Tuanzebe, with a move to Aston Villa now potentially on the cards for the Manchester United central defender, the Telegraph report.
Newcastle or Villa?
Newcastle were reported to be leading the race for the defender earlier this week by the Manchester Evening News.
However, the latest update says that Villa are now chasing a permanent deal for the 23-year-old.
Villa undoubtedly have more money than Newcastle, and they should have fewer issues affording a deal.
Newcastle did want to take Tuanzebe on loan, but the fee that Manchester United are demanding are said to be an issue.
If Villa were to land Tuanzebe on a permanent deal he could be an appealing signing.
Villa have taken Tuanzebe on loan before, and he proved his class at Villa Park.
His arrival would give Villa serious competition for places at the back, with Tyrone Mings and Ezri Konsa already at the club.
Newcastle fans may also be left seriously frustrated if Tuanzebe does move elsewhere, as the Magpies have not made a signing all summer.
