Report: Newcastle and West Ham to challenge Spurs and Barcelona for Arthur Cabral

Newcastle United are looking to move into the race to sign South American star Arthur Cabral, with the likes of West Ham and Tottenham also keen on the Brazilian.

Cabral, 23, has been in fine form for Basel in recent times and has already hit 25 goals in just 26 games in all competitions this term. And now, according to Goal, Newcastle are looking to bring in the forward during the January transfer window.

It’s claimed that the Magpies, along with West Ham and Barcelona, are keeping close tabs on the striker. It follows on from reports in October that suggested Tottenham were looking to sign Cabral too.

Goal’s report claims that Basel could accept around just £12m for Cabral. Obviously, for a player who is scoring so many goals and with so much potential to improve further, that is quite the bargain.

Newcastle are desperate for new signings in the January window. A host of names have been linked, with Eddie Howe determined to give his side the best chance possible of survival. Landing a regular goalscorer such as Cabral, would seem like a logical signing to make.

TBR’s View: Cabral is lethal and Newcastle should take a punt

Newcastle need goals. They need to keep them out as we know, but they need to start scoring more frequently as well.

Cabral is certainly worth the gamble. And in fact, at around £12m, it’s barely even a gamble for a club that is as rich as the Toon. Even if it didn’t work out between January and May, Cabral’s reputation is still as such that the club could simply sell him back on.

Eddie Howe needs help, and he needs it quickly. Therefore, moving for a striker who is getting nearly a goal a game, makes so much sense.
