Report: Newcastle and West Ham join Leeds in chase for £15million striker

TeamTalk claim Newcastle and West Ham are the latest Premier League clubs to be showing an interest in MLS star Daryl Dike. It comes after earlier reports this week, suggesting Leeds were keen on the £15million star.

Dike, 21, has enjoyed a brilliant 2021. Spending the second half of the 2020-21 season on loan at Championship side Barnsley, the USA international scored nine goals in 21 appearances as the Tykes finished in the play-offs.

90Min claim that Barnsley tried to sign Dike permanently, but a fee of £15million – his Orlando City buyout clause – proved too expensive. He returned to Orlando, and scored 11 goals in 19 games, for the MLS side.

Now, the MLS season is over, Dike may find himself a prime target in the January window. 90Min said Leeds were keen this week, and now TeamTalk say Newcastle, West Ham and Brighton have joined Leeds in the race.

Newcastle, West Ham or Leeds: Which club is best for Dike?

All three are in a similar position. The trio of clubs have old-fashioned no.9 centre-forwards, who are first choice and would cost a bomb to improve on. Callum Wilson, Michail Antonio and Patrick Bamford.

But all three clubs are in need of back-up. Newcastle have Joelinton and Allan Saint-Maximin, but they are being used elsewhere. West Ham lack another striker, with Jarrod Bowen playing up top against Tottenham on Wednesday.

Leeds have Tyler Roberts and Rodrigo, but they are used in the 10 role. Joe Gelhardt is coming through, which might make a move to Newcastle or West Ham more favourable for Dike – but only as cover.
