Report: Newcastle and West Ham both could move to sign £30m PL star who’s in danger of being relegated

Newcastle and West Ham are apparently keeping tabs on Emmanuel Dennis in the event that Watford are relegated.

Dennis made a flying start to life in the Premier League and remains one of the Hornets’ biggest chances of avoiding relegation.

Those prospects look increasingly unlikely and the Athletic claim that if Watford do drop into the Championship, he is almost certain to leave.

They say he is one of Watford’s most valuable assets and could fetch up to £30 million in the market during the summer.

Dennis has also agreed a wage cut via a relegation clause in his contract, so he will not be a drain on Watford’s finances but that is likely to push him to want to leave.

The striker will talk with Watford’s hierarchy at the end of the season and wants to stay in the Premier League, with Newcastle and West Ham named as potential destinations.

There is also another unnamed Premier League club keen, as well as interest from Spain and Italy, if Watford go down.

Both clubs could do with a new striker, but they need a backup hitman and it remains to be seen whether they would spend £30 million on one.

That said, Dennis has had a good season in the Premier League and that experience in England will count in his favour as a known quantity.

It is also down to clubs to decide if he has been a one-season wonder or if he can sustain a career in England, once Watford’s fate is sealed either way.
