Newcastle United have reportedly made enquiries regarding the availability of Nice midfielder Wylan Cyprien.
According to The Daily Mail, Cyprien has emerged as a potential January addition for the Magpies, who is also apparently interesting Tottenham Hotspur.
Steve Bruce and Mike Ashley are set to discuss transfers, with the owner expected on Tyneside to visit the club’s training ground for the first time since August.
Cyprien, 24, has been a mainstay for Patrick Vieira’s Nice this season, making 20 appearances.
The star, who wore the captain’s armband a few times earlier in the season in the absence of defender Dante, has scored seven goals and laid on five assists in all competitions.
The Mail claim Nice value Cyprien at around £20 million.
TBR’s view – Newcastle in pole as Spurs chase Fernandes?
Reports are suggesting Tottenham are closing in on Portuguese midfielder Gedson Fernandes.
That could mean Newcastle stand a better chance of landing Cyprien, and the Frenchman could be a means of reinvigorating the midfield.
One thing the Newcastle midfield lacks is mobility, and Cyprien has that and energy in abundance.
He is also impressively comfortable on the ball, and loves to receive possession in deeper areas to start attacks for his team.
