Transfermarkt have claimed that Newcastle United and Fulham are rivalling a number of European sides for Paderborn defender Jamilu Collins, with the Nigerian set to enter the final 12 months of his current deal.
Collins, 25, has impressed in the top tier of German football. Clocking up 21 league outings for Paderborn, the 13-time Nigeria international has laid on two assists from the left flank and even scored, netting against Bayern Munich.
Fulham are closing in on a return to the Premier League, while Newcastle are likely to be after a left-back once again this summer. Jetro Willems and Danny Rose are only on loan at The Toon, with Rose’s deal not including a permanent option.
Mainz, Hertha Berlin and Schalke are also keen on Collins, who could be available for a bargain £2.6million.
And Collins could be the answer. Certainly, such a small fee would certainly entice owner Mike Ashley and Collins boasts plenty of pace that would see him impress in Steve Bruce’s counter-attacking style.
Whether he is good enough for the Premier League, is a different story. But at such a bargain price, surely he is worth the risk. Certainly, Collins would be a much better option than Paul Dummett.
