Newcastle United are reportedly among the teams in contact with Real Madrid over a potential transfer for ex-Chelsea star, Eden Hazard.

Things have gone badly for the 115-cap Belgian superstar ever since he completed a mega-money move to Spain from Stamford Bridge. Despite having a La Liga title to his name, Hazard has made just 52 appearances for Madrid, scoring only 5 times.

At the moment, he is struggling for regular starts. Indeed, Carlo Ancelotti has said he prefers others at the moment to Hazard. And ESPN have now claimed that Los Blancos are sounding out clubs, including Newcastle, about a January move.

ESPN suggest that Newcastle, along with Chelsea, have been contacted about Hazard. It comes as Madrid look to lighten their load, with moves for Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland on their agenda for the summer.

Newcastle are expected to makes moves in January. However, a marquee signing like Hazard may not happen. Indeed, he is said to earn over £21m-a-year in Spain (over £400k-a-week). Whether PIF are willing to pay someone that much so soon, remains to be seen.

Newcastle have to be careful when it comes to players like Eden Hazard.

Yes, he’s a successful and brilliant player on his day. But the problem now is those days seems to have gone. Injuries, fitness issues, and question marks over attitude have plagued his time in Madrid.

So do Newcastle really want that at their doorstep? Probably not. Of course, his name would bring excitement. And if he could hit the heights, then everyone knows how good Hazard can be.

But on that money, and being 30 already, Newcastle might be better served looking for younger, hungrier stars. Rather than someone after a big pay day at a cash-rich club.
