Turkish Football have claimed that Newcastle United, Everton, Celtic and Turkish clubs are interested in signing Wolfsburg wonderkid Charles-Jesaja Herrmann this summer.
Herrmann, 19, is highly-rated in his own country, as he continues to shine for Wolfsburg’s Under-19 side. This season, he has scored 12 goals and laid on seven assists – playing out wide and up front in equal measure.
His excellent form has even seen the fleet-footed attacker earn seven caps for Germany’s Under-19 side, in which he has scored three goals. His rapid progression have even seen him play four times for Wolfsburg’s reserve side.
It is a much bigger deal to play for a German club’s reserve side than it is in England. That is because they play in the fourth tier of German football, and Wolfsburg sit at the top – two games away from promotion.
The report claims Herrmann is considering his options this summer and is willing to join a side that can offer a path into the first-team. He has a contract at the German side until the summer of 2022.
Celtic is probably Herrmann’s best option. Newcastle and Rafa Benitez have not placed faith in much youth in recent years, with Sean Longstaff the only significant youngster to break through.
Everton do have a track record of bringing younger players in, but since Marco Silva arrived that has somewhat subsided. Everton’s second string, though, are one of the best reserve sides in the country.
But at Celtic, he will find his chances of first-team football most likely. Timo Weah and Oliver Burke are set to leave, while question marks remain over Leigh Griffiths and Vakoun Bayo. There is room for Herrmann in Glasgow.
