According to Wales Online, both Aston Villa and Newcastle United are keen on signing Liverpool youngster Harry Wilson. It is thought that an offer of £15 million might be enough to prise the 22-year-old winger away from Anfield.
The 11-cap Wales international is a supreme talent. He was in scintillating form last season, whilst on loan with Derby County in the Championship. Over the course of the league campaign, Wilson racked up 15 goals and three assists in 40 appearances for the Rams.
The versatile attacker is now certainly ready to make the step up to the top flight. However, the extraordinarily high standard currently being set at Liverpool, along with the fierce competition for places, means that Wilson is unlikely to get the regular game time he needs as part of Jurgen Klopp’s squad this season.
Both Newcastle and Aston Villa could certainly offer him regular minutes though. He would be a fine signing for both the Villans and the Magpies. Both are huge clubs with massive, passionate followings who would love to see Wilson join their club.
Given the current sense of optimism at Villa Park though, with Dean Smith having just led the club to promotion to the Premier League, it may be the more suitable destination for Wilson. Smith’s side will play attacking football and he will give Wilson the freedom he needs on the pitch to flourish.
On Liverpool’s part though, they would be wise to command more than £15 million for such a promising talent. The Reds would probably be smart to restrict any exit for Wilson to a loan deal, as he has the potential to one day feature for his parent club.
