Newcastle United and Arsenal are battling some of Europe’s top clubs for the signature of Rennes striker Georginio Rutter, according to L’Equipe, via Get French Football News.

RB Leipzig, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and AC Milan are all thought to be keen on signing the player before the transfer window closes.

The 18-year-old has just a year to run on his existing deal and that has alerted a number of clubs, including Newcastle and Arsenal.

Rutter is yet to make his first-team debut for the Ligue 1 outfit yet but has risen through the France youth ranks, scoring goals at every level up to under 18s.

It is thought that the centre-forward will ask some question of Rennes before he chooses his next move.

The wanted man is keen to establish what part he will play at Rennes. He doesn’t expect to be a first-team regular by any stretch but he would at least like to earn some first-team opportunities.

Rennes do have a decent history of bringing youngsters through to the first-team and it’ll be interesting to see what their plans are.

If they don’t promise the Frenchman some sort of opportunity though, other clubs will be waiting in the wings to pounce on the striker.

TBR View – Newcastle and Arsenal clearly have one eye on the future

Given that he hasn’t forced his way into the thoughts of the Rennes boss yet, it seems unlikely he’ll do the same at Arsenal or Newcastle.

That said, Newcastle are somewhat light of options and although they are set to sign Callum Wilson, another striker wouldn’t go amiss.

Should Arsenal land him he’d be viewed as one for the future, possibly even linking up with the under-23 ranks for a season first.

Rutter is certainly a player on the radar of Newcastle and Arsenal and it’ll be interesting to see if he’s willing to listen to what the Premier League duo could offer him in the future.
