According to Spanish outlet, Marca, Newcastle United and Schalke are both keen on signing Standard Liege winger, Selim Amallah this summer.

As well as hitting seven league goals and providing four assists, Amallah has made an impact in the Europa League, too, getting on the scoresheet against Arsenal this season.

And that form and impact seem to have caught the eye, with Newcastle named by Marca as one of the clubs keen on taking the Moroccan off Liege’s hands.

Amallah is known for his exciting displays for the Belgian outfit. Predominantly an attacking midfield player, Amallah is just as comfortable in a wide left position.

His signing could provide Newcastle with added impetus going forward. They have, at times, struggled for goals this season. It goes without saying, then, that Steve Bruce may well appreciate the signing of a pacey attacker like Amallah.

There is no mention of a fee, although he did only cost Liege just over £1m. It wouldn’t take much to prize him away from the club you would think.

Newcastle are being linked with different players on a daily basis at the moment. Some names are outlandish and raise eyebrows, while others – like Amallah – seem more realistic.

Once their takeover is complete, we can expect the club to be busy in the market. But they won’t just want to buy for the sake of it.

At 23, and with goals and assists in the locker, Amallah might be just the sort of low-key capture who flourishes.

Newcastle needs support for the likes of Saint-Maximin and Almiron. The Moroccan might just be that man.
