According to The Athletic, Newcastle United are already thinking of the summer transfer window and Sven Botman will be one of their key targets again.
The Magpies were desperate to bring in a new centre-half in January. They were linked with a number of big names throughout last month, but it was clear for everyone that Botman was their preferred target.
The 22-year-old has been absolutely outstanding for Lille in France since he joined them. He is already a Ligue 1 champion and it’s only a better of time before he leaves Les Dogues for a bigger club.
Newcastle came close to signing him last month, but the summer transfer window could be when they’ll be able to get him.
Sven Botman is on Newcastle United’s summer transfer shortlist
Newcastle have a really difficult relegation battle to get through in the coming months but that hasn’t stopped the club from thinking of players to sign for next season.
The report claims that Botman, who has already claimed that Newcastle are working on a ‘great project’, is among the names that is currently on Eddie Howe’s summer transfer window wish list.
The Dutchman, who stands at 6ft 5in tall, is a fantastic defender. Labelled as a ‘great player‘ by Italy legend Paulo Maldini, he is already one of the best in France and although Newcastle will try to get him if they survive, it will not be easy as plenty of other clubs will be interested in his services as well.

TBR View:
It’s a good thing that Newcastle United are working on potential transfers for next season, but Eddie Howe and co’s only focus for the next few months should be on staying in the Premier League.
The Magpies have won just twice in the Premier League this season but all hope is not lost just yet. They are currently 18th in the league table and a few good results in the coming weeks could push them out of the drop zone.
Newcastle have signed five new players and all of them will have to hit the ground running. It will not be easy but if Howe manages to get the best out of them in the coming months, the Toon should be able to avoid relegation.
