The Daily Mail have reported that Newcastle United had an agreement in place to sign Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Idrissa Gueye this month – but the player has other ideas, deciding to reject a move to Tyneside.
Gueye, 31, remains a crucial part of Mauricio Pochettino’s side – having clocked up 21 appearances in all competitions. Since swapping Everton for PSG, the £30million man has played 55 times for the Ligue 1 Champions.
But the likes of Marco Verratti, Leandro Paredes, Danilo Pereira and more provide competition and it is claimed that Newcastle agreed a loan move for the 74-time Senegal international. But a move has fallen through.
Indeed, The Toon have found that the player does not want to play for Steve Bruce’s side. PSG are open to his exit and a move back to England is on the cards – but Gueye is unsure about Steve Bruce’s side.

TBR’s view – Gueye would have been a real Newcastle coup
Newcastle need a midfielder and are expected to target that kind of player this month. Jonjo Shelvey, Sean Longstaff, Matty Longstaff and Isaac Hayden currently provide the options – but the Toon need a bit of quality.
Gueye is of Champions League standard, and boasts plenty of experience. He would take Newcastle to the next level in their midfield area – but a move has fallen through and The Toon need to pursue other targets.
