According to ESPN, Newcastle have reached an agreement with Club Santos Laguna over a deal for Santiago Muñoz.
What’s the story?
Well, it seems as if fiction is becoming reality.
A Mexican wonderkid who swaps obscurity for the bright lights of Premier League football with Newcastle – remind you of anyone?
We’re hardly the first to mention it, but Muñoz sounds remarkably similar to Santiago Munez – the star of the Goal trilogy.
ESPN believe the 18-year-old has reached an agreement to join Newcastle after deciding not to renew his contract with Club Santos Laguna.
The deal will now be processed over the next few hours, before an announcement is set to take place later today according to ESPN.
Who does Santiago Muñoz play like?

Interestingly, the Texas-born forward models his game on Robert Lewandowski, according to The Athletic.
When many were laughing at the similarities between Muñoz and Munez back in February – Newcastle even tweeted about him – The Athletic released a detailed piece on the striker.
Within the article, the teenager is called a ‘special’ player by Omar Tapía, an Under-20 coach at Club Santos Laguna.

By the sounds of it, he’s a huge prospect, who the Mexican club would’ve preferred to keep.
However, his contract decision took the power out of their hands.
Nevertheless, their loss is Newcastle’s gain – hopefully, Muñoz can replicate what Munez did on Tyneside in the Goal trilogy.
