Report: Newcastle's Callum Wilson out for a number of weeks with thigh injury
Newcastle United ace Callum Wilson could be out for a number of weeks with an injury, according to the Shields Gazzette.
The ‘electric’ former Bournemouth ace limped off during the Magpies’ 2-2 draw at home to Southampton before the international break.
It deepens the worries over their star striker, who suffered numerous muscle injuries last season.
Wilson has been out of action with three separate hamstring issues over the course of 2021.
His first spell out was for a week back in January, then 56 days (his longest) from February to April, followed by the last three league games in May.
Now he could be out for a few weeks more with yet another muscle issue. Steve Bruce confirmed after the draw with the Saints that his star man suffered a thigh injury.
Wilson injury shows how poor Newcastle transfer business was
The injury suffered by Wilson shows how poor Newcastle were during this summer’s transfer window.
This summer was a fairly important one for the Magpies in strengthening a weak squad. And it would not be a stretch to say the club failed massively.
A raft of positions were left untouched, including centre-forward, where Newcastle have known of Wilson’s struggles for a while.
The 29-year-old’s struggle with muscle injuries is not something new and has been going on throughout his time at St James’ Park.
Failing to sign a competent backup to Wilson leaves the club in danger of stretching their bad run of form.
What is currently three games without a win can easily be stretched to seven, eight or even nine depending on how long the ace is out for. And that in itself is a massive worry for Bruce.
