Report: New twist unfolds in Arsenal bid to offload player; 'everything has stopped'
Arsenal have suffered a blow in negotiations with AS Roma over the sale of Granit Xhaka, with negotiations reportedly coming to a halt.
According to il Tempo via the Express, ‘everything has stopped’ between the Italian giants and the Gunners over Xhaka.
Roma have been in talks with the north London side for most of the summer window. But a new twist has seemingly occurred in the saga.
Arsenal are eager to sell Xhaka this window, with Mikel Arteta valuing the midfielder at €20m (£17m). However, Roma are struggling to negotiate a transfer fee with the Gunners.
The Gunners have already signed a new midfielder this summer in the form of Albert Sambi Lokonga.
And reports suggest that Arteta is keen to add another player in the position. But this could depend on if Xhaka is sold this window.
With Roma struggling to reach an agreement with Arsenal, the north London side might be forced to lower their asking price for Xhaka if they are to sell the midfielder this summer.
The Gunners are facing a similar situation with Hector Bellerin. Arsenal are no short of suitors, but clubs are not willing to match the £20m asking price the north London side are demanding for the defender.
