Tottenham Hotspur winger Steven Bergwijn reportedly walked away from a big-money bonus in order to sign for the club in January.
According to a report from The Mirror, the Netherlands international was in line to receive a payout of just under £6 million had he remained at the Eredivisie club until the summer.

It is claimed that Bergwijn was so desperate to join Spurs and play Premier League football that he was happy to forgo the huge bonus.
Apparently, PSV wouldn’t enter into negotiations with Tottenham unless Bergwijn agreed to turn down the money.
The star ended up completing a transfer to north London, reported to be worth around £27 million by BBC Sport, and he already has one start and one goal to his name.
The 22-year-old struck a superb opener against Manchester City on Sunday, delighting the Spurs faithful.
TBR’s view – The perfect start for Bergwijn
In addition to his excellent goal, the Mirror’s report about him walking away from such a huge bonus is bound to endear Bergwijn to the Spurs supporters.

It would have been very easy for the winger to have stayed put until the summer and then pushed for a move.
The fact he was happy to forgo that sum and sign for Spurs mid-season just shows how much he wanted to play for the club.
It would suggest an ambitiousness, and points to the kind of mentality that could serve Tottenham very well in the coming years.
