The Daily Mail has claimed that new Chelsea signing Hakim Ziyech is desperate for Frank Lampard’s side to win the race for Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana, tipping Tottenham Hotspur to the stopper’s signature.
Ziyech is to join Chelsea at the end of the season after agreeing a £37million move from Ajax after the January transfer window and he is desperate to be joined by teammate Onana. Chelsea are believed to want a new goalkeeper in the summer.
Kepa Arrizabalaga has been dropped in recent matches, while Ziyech is close friends with Cameroon international Onana. The race for the Ajax goalkeeper is expected to hot up in the upcoming window, with bidding expected to reach £50million.
Tottenham have long been linked with Onana, given Hugo Lloris’ decline – and a summer move could occur. But Ziyech wants Chelsea to beat Spurs to Onana, while Barcelona also want to sign the former La Masia product.
TBR’s view – Onana would be one of the best goalkeepers in PL
But which club will he join? The report claims Onana would be open to joining either Spurs or Chelsea. It may come down to how the two sides finish the Premier League campaign, with Lampard’s men currently winning that competition.
Chelsea are in line to qualify for the top four of the Premier League, while Spurs sit way down in eighth place. Tottenham will be hoping, though, that the Coronavirus outbreak suspends activity – in order for the likes of Harry Kane and Son to recover.
Onana would be a top signing for either team, and would be one of the best in the Premier League.
