Report: New Celtic man struggling in training after beating Leeds to signature
The Athletic are claiming that new Celtic player Osaze Urhoghide is struggling to impress in training – after Celtic beat Leeds to his signature.
Celtic won the race to sign 21-year-old defender Osaze Urhoghide on a free transfer from English side Sheffield Wednesday earlier this summer.
The centre-back is yet to make his senior debut for the Hoops despite the club’s lack of options at centre-back. He has been on the bench nine times.
The report claims that Urhoghide is struggling in Celtic training to impress – despite breaking into Wednesday’s side last season, playing 21 times.
It comes after reports back in June that said Celtic had beaten Leeds, Palace and Watford in the race to get the defender – according to the The Star.
Urhoghide struggling at Celtic: Leeds dodged a bullet?
It is hard to say if Urhoghide will be a success at Celtic until he is at least given some game time. It is also incredibly early into his Celtic spell.
Still only 21, playing alongside better players in training will certainly aid his development. But for there to be concerns this early, is worrying.
Ange Postecoglou has brought in two new centre-backs in Carl Starfelt and Cameron Carter-Vickers. Stephen Welsh and Chris Jullien are also options.
Even against FC Midtjylland, Dane Murray was preferred at centre-back to Urhoghide. So, did Leeds dodge a bullet? The early signs are not good.
