The Chronicle have claimed that Newcastle United manager Steve Bruce has promoted 16-year-old midfielder Joe White to the first team, after starring for the Under-18’s last season.

White, who turns 17 in October, clocked up 13 appearances for Newcastle’s Under-18 side in the Under-18 Premier League – playing in a variety of positions that included central midfield, attacking midfield and up front.

Indeed, White found the back of the net on two occasions against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Middlesbrough as well as laying on four assists for The Toon’s youngsters – including one against Manchester United.

White came through the ranks at Carlisle United before swapping the side he had been with since the age of 10 years old, for Newcastle. Now, he is training alongside the likes of Joelinton, Jamaal Lascelles and Jonjo Shelvey.

TBR’s view – Can Bruce find Newcastle’s next Sean Longstaff?

Longstaff came through the ranks at Newcastle before breaking into Rafa Benitez’s starting eleven last summer. After a series of man-of-the-match displays, Manchester United became interested.

The Shields Gazette claim that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side made a £35million offer for Longstaff, which was turned down. He will now need to grow, but Bruce will be tasked with finding the next breakthrough talent.

Longstaff’s brother, Matty, impressed in pre-season with an excellent winner against St. Etienne. But White, at just 16 years of age, could also be the next talent – especially if he is already training with the firsts.
