Report: Napoli have tabled eight-figure offer for Tottenham star

Sky Italy journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has claimed that Carlo Ancelotti’s Napoli have made an offer between £15.5million and £17.3million for Tottenham Hotspur defender Kieran Trippier.

Trippier, 28, was on the list of the Evening Standard’s list of 12 players that could leave Tottenham this summer. Indeed, his form has dipped since shining for England at last summer’s World Cup.

Still first choice for Spurs, though, Trippier is set to start for Tottenham against Ajax on Tuesday night in the semi-finals of the Champions League. He has a contract at Spurs until the summer of 2022.

The offer from Napoli has been rejected by Spurs, but they have left the door open over a potential move to the Serie A side. That is because the north Londoners have informed the Italian club they want £30million for Trippier.

Trippier is interested in a move to Napoli and negotiations are continuing. However, the only stumbling block – other than the price – could be Manchester United, with Trippier said to prefer a move to Old Trafford.

TBR’s view

Spurs cannot lose Trippier. Yes, his form may have dipped of late but plenty of Spurs players are guilty of that. The likes of Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen and Harry Kane have been a shadow of their 2017-18 selves.

If Spurs do sell Trippier – even for £30million – they will struggle to find a right-sided defender who is as good as the England international for a similar price. Aaron Wan-Bissaka could cost double.

Keeping the former Burnley and Manchester City right-back is crucial.
