Serie A side Napoli have reportedly turned their attentions to Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Adama Traore, after struggling to secure a move for PSV Eindhoven ace Hirving Lozano.
Calciomercato claim the Italian outfit have been ‘probing carefully’ the 23-year-old, who endured a poor debut season with Wolves in 2018/19.
The £18 million signing from Middlesbrough (BBC Sport) was unable to break into the starting XI and be a consistent starter for Nuno Espirito Santo.
With Wolves using wing-backs he was always going to be up against it, but he certainly didn’t make the most of the chances he was handed off the bench.
Traore only scored one goal across the whole of 2018/19, and was criticised for his poor final ball.
Napoli being interested in Traore is certainly surprising.
The Spaniard has done very little to warrant interest from a top European side.
That said, despite his recent struggles, Traore still has great potential and perhaps he would flourish in the Italian top flight, where the pace is a lot slower.
There’s a chance he would run rings around defenders and have more time to ensure a good final ball.
Traore was recently backed to come good by Espirito Santo (Shropshire Star), but their resolve could now be tested.
