Report: Napoli believe Everton can't afford Kalidou Koulibaly
A report from Italian outlet Calciomercato has made an interesting claim concerning Everton and the likelihood of the Toffees being able to sign Kalidou Koulibaly this summer.
Rafa Benitez is reportedly keen to bring Koulibaly to Goodison Park this summer. Previous reports claimed that the Spaniard had requested that the 30-year-old was made a top target.
Unsurprisingly, plenty of Everton fans expressed their delight about the rumours. Koulibaly has long been considered one of the world’s best defenders.
However, it would now appear that a deal may not actually be that likely at all.
According to Calciomercato, Everton do not have the financial power to offer the sort of fee Napoli would want.
The Toffees have parted with some big sums under Farhad Moshiri. So that would suggest that the Serie A side are looking for a lot more than £35 million.
It is apparently likely that the Senegal international will stay in Naples this summer.
Everton would make huge statement by signing Kalidou Koulibaly
Reports stating that Koulibaly’s asking price had gone from £100 million to £35 million highlighted that he is not quite at the peak of his powers.
However, the centre-back remains one of the very best. So signing Koulibaly would have been huge.
Unfortunately, it does appear that Napoli will demand a lot more than first thought.
So it will be interesting to see how Everton approach the pursuit. Perhaps, they may decide to look elsewhere.
But if they do sign Koulibaly from here, it would surely be an even greater statement.
