According to The Mirror, Ralph Hasenhuttl is ready to let six Southampton players leave this summer.
Charlie Austin, Jordy Clasie, Fraser Forster, Wesley Hoedt, Cedric Soares and Jack Stephens all face the axe at the end of the season.
Hasenhuttl is preparing a major squad overhaul as he looks to transform his squad and get his side up the league table.
Southampton’s form has picked up since Hasenhuttl has arrived on the south coast and players like Nathan Redmond and James Ward-Prowse look like new signings.
But several other players are heading for the exit door this summer. Goalkeeper Fraser Forster’s departure has been on the cards for a while and that now looks likely.
Alex McCarthy and Angus Gunn are ahead of the 6-cap England international in the pecking order. And after failing to recapture his spot under Hasenhuttl, the towering 31-year-old looks set to leave.
He could be joined by Jack Stephens, who has lost his confidence this season. The 25-year-old centre-back has had an error-prone campaign and he could leave the club permanently.
Austin, who has scored three times this season, is not Hasenhuttl’s first-choice striker. And he has been told to find a new club for the sake of his career.
Meanwhile, three loanees do not have a future when they return to St Mary’s Stadium. Defenders Wesley Hoedt and Cedric Soares, who are with Celta Vigo and Inter Milan respectively, will be joined by Feyenoord loanee Jordy Clasie in leaving Southampton.
