Aston Villa are seemingly ready to offload a number of players this summer, with the Express and Star suggesting that Mbwana Samatta is amongst those who could leave during the coming weeks.
Dean Smith’s men managed to stay up on the final day of the Premier League season. But they required an outstanding end to the campaign to ensure that they would not make an immediate return to the Championship.
Perhaps unsurprisingly therefore, Smith looks to be open to letting several players leave during this window.
It has been a disappointing time for Samatta following his £8.5 million move to the Villans in January. He scored just one league goal in 14 Premier League appearances.
Meanwhile, the Express and Star suggests that Jota, Anwar El Ghazi and Henri Lansbury could all also leave the club.
TBR View: El Ghazi exit may surprise some, but trio leaving makes sense
Of the names the club are reportedly open to moving on, one arguably sticks out as the most surprising.
The fans will not be shocked if Jota, Lansbury and Samatta are allowed to find new clubs. But perhaps El Ghazi potentially leaving will disappoint some.
The Dutchman has come in for criticism at times throughout the campaign. And perhaps more fans would understand if the club accepted a substantial offer for him.
But only Jack Grealish had a direct hand in more league goals than the winger this past season. And he made 10 fewer starts than the captain.
