A report from Spanish outlet Estadio Deportivo has shared the club that Arsenal loanee Dani Ceballos would like to be playing for next season – and it appears to be a blow for Mikel Arteta and the Gunners.

Ceballos – who earns £52,000-a-week, according to Spotrac – has endured a mixed loan spell at the Emirates. The first-half of the season saw the Real Madrid-owned midfielder struggle to make much of an impact.

At that stage, his name looked destined to be added to the lengthening list of poor loan signings Arsenal have made down the years.

However, like many players within Arsenal’s squad, he has proved a real point since Unai Emery was replaced by Arteta.

He had been outstanding in recent weeks. And Arsenal fans would have been forgiven for hoping to see the Premier League side reach out to Los Blancos in an attempt to try and agree a permanent deal this summer.

Arsenal’s hopes of deal dashed?

But a report from Spain has seemingly hinted that the chances of the Gunners keeping Ceballos are currently slim.

Estadio Deportivo reports that Ceballos’s former club Real Betis are interested in re-signing him this summer.

And the 23-year-old’s preference would reportedly be to return to Los Verdiblancos.

The report does claim that Madrid are unhappy with how little Ceballos has played in North London.

But that is largely down to an injury he suffered towards the end of 2019. Since his return, he has arguably established himself as a key man for Arteta.

The loan spell looked set to end on a high note before the season was halted. So it would be no surprise to see Arsenal target another deal this summer.

Unfortunately for the Gunners, it appears that they may have some work to do to convince the Spaniard to stay.
