Mikel Arteta may have played down the idea of Mohamed Elneny getting a new contract in his press conference on Wednesday, but the Daily Mail is reporting that Arsenal are in fact preparing to offer the midfielder fresh terms following his outstanding start to the season.
Few would have anticipated ahead of this season that Elneny would take such an important role in Arteta’s plans this term. As noted by the Daily Mail, it was expected that he may leave the club in the summer.

The 28-year-old spent last season out on loan. And with Arsenal boasting a lot of depth in the middle of the park, it would have been difficult to question the Gunners’ decision had they let the Egyptian leave.
However, Elneny remains in North London. And he has proved to be a revelation for Arteta’s men.
His performance in Sunday’s win at Old Trafford represented a completion of the turnaround in his Arsenal career. He was outstanding, and his partnership with Thomas Partey looks to have serious potential.

And it now appears that Arsenal want to ensure Elneny is set to stay for a long time yet. The Mail reports that he is set to be offered a new contract. It is noted that his current deal expires in 2022.
Interestingly, the report has emerged shortly after Arteta issued a coy response when asked about whether he was in line for fresh terms.
“Let’s go step by step please! What I can say is that I am really pleased with the player and everything that he is doing and hopefully he can continue like that and perform rally well throughout the season,” he said, as reported by Football London.
TBR View: Arteta getting the best out of Elneny
If Elneny – who earns £40,000-a-week, according to Spotrac – sustains his current form, a new contract could be an inspired move. Arteta appears to be getting the best out of him at the moment.
There were flashes of Elneny’s best form before his loan exit. But something definitely seems to have clicked for all parties.
There was probably a time not so long ago when Elneny’s departure would have been welcomed by many Arsenal supporters.
Now however, it seems highly likely that it is an announcement of a new contract that will be music to their ears.
