Nick Pope a safe pair of hands for Tottenham as doubts over Hugo Lloris start to emerge again

Pope is a player who has been on Tottenham’s radar in the past. In fact, ahead of last summer, it was suggested that Spurs had the Burnley man on their wishlist amid doubts over Hugo Lloris’s future. At the time, his asking price was said to be £50 million.

Lloris has been outstanding this term. But questions over his future have started up again. It was reported this week that Nice have made the 35-year-old their top target for the summer. And Tottenham may be powerless to stop him leaving with his contract up in the coming months.

So Pope may be on the shopping list amid concerns about what decision Lloris may make.

Pope’s stock has probably not been as high this season as it has in previous years. FBRef lists him at 29th in the league for his performance against the expected goals against Burnley this term. Lloris meanwhile, sits fifth.

He has kept two clean sheets in his last three however. And he has previously managed to force his way into the England fold.

And should Burnley continue to struggle, Tottenham may be hoping that he is available for a decent price.
