The Guardian have claimed in a report that Jose Mourinho is looking to sign Southampton midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in an attempt to bring the best out of club-record signing Tanguy Ndombele.
Hojbjerg, 24, has been strongly linked with a move to Spurs of late. The Guardian report states that his asking price has dropped to just £25million, rather than the previous £35million fee. Kyle Walker-Peters could be included.
But the report states that Mourinho is not just interested in signing the former Bayern Munich star simply to bolster his midfield options. He has a grand plan that hopes can finally bring the best out of Ndombele.
That is, by using Hojbjerg in the holding midfield role, with Ndombele playing in more of an attacking role alongside Gio Lo Celso in a 4-3-3 system – which he will be more familiar with after playing more advanced at Lyon.

TBR’s view – Hojbjerg a much-needed signing
Not only because it would add some much-needed steel in the middle of the park. Harry Winks is an excellent passer of the ball, but he is lightweight. Moussa Sissoko is not as technically gifted, but has the physicality and stamina.
Spurs need a mix of both to shield the back four and Hojbjerg is ideal. Cheap, experienced but still only 24 and a fully-fledged international with Denmark, he is the perfect addition.
Not only that, but Mourinho is now confident that Hojbjerg can bring the best out of Ndombele. A no-brainer.
