Jose Mourinho’s arrival at Tottenham Hotspur has had no effect on Christian Eriksen’s mindset.
According to The Telegraph, Eriksen has made it clear that he still wants to leave Tottenham. As a result, Mourinho is planning for life without the Denmark midfielder.
Eriksen expressed his desire to leave in the summer but he failed to secure his exit. When the transfer window slammed shut, he was forced to remain at Tottenham. His performances have not quite been up to his usual standards this season.
Tottenham recently let Mauricio Pochettino go and brought in Mourinho as his replacement. The Portuguese manager’s arrival has prompted a turnaround in form with Tottenham winning three on the bounce.
This has also given the club encouragement as they try to tie Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen down to contract extensions. But there will be no such luck with Eriksen. The 27-year-old has his heart set on a move so he could be sold in January.
Mourinho is wise to plan for life without Eriksen; he has been on the bench for all of the new boss’s three matches so far. In the 3-2 win over Bournemouth last weekend, Mourinho decided to leave Eriksen as an unused substitute.
Giving chances to players like Giovani Lo Celso and Lucas Moura should be Mourinho’s priority. These are the players who will carry his Spurs team into the future; not Eriksen.
