Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette is the subject of fresh interest from Monaco, according a report from The Mirror today.
Lacazette’s future was one of the hot topics of the summer last year. However, the Frenchman stayed put and has, in fairness, gone on to become an integral cog for the Gunners under Mikel Arteta.
But he is one of the higher earners within the squad too and one of the more experienced players. That could mean Mikel Arteta looks to move him on, as the Spaniard continues to reshape his squad at The Emirates.
Arsenal also run the risk of losing Lacazette for nothing, with his contract heading into its final year this summer. Monaco’s interest, and a return to France, could well perk the interest of the striker himself.
Lacazette has previously said he has no issues being at the club and is seen as a steady influence off the field too. Indeed, Emile Smith-Rowe has singled him out for praise earlier this season, citing Lacazette’s influence on the field in attacking areas as crucial.
TBR View: Lacazette has done well, Arteta faces a tough decision with this one
This is a really tricky one for the Arsenal boss. Does he keep an experienced head around or even hand out a new deal, or does he move on and let Lacazette start afresh elsewhere.
The Frenchman is certainly useful. He scores goals, knows the league well and can, on his day, be lethal.
However, he’s never quite hit the heights some expected and if Arsenal can recoup any of the £52m they spent on him, then it might be seen as a smart business move for the club in general.
