Tottenham Hotspur continue to keep Milan Skriniar on their radar heading into the January transfer window, with ESPN reporting that he is Jose Mourinho’s number one defensive target.

As noted by ESPN, Spurs wanted to sign the 25-year-old in the summer. However, they were unable to agree a deal.

They did manage to sign a centre-back before the deadline passed. And despite being brought in as one more for the future, Joe Rodon has since gone on to make his full Tottenham debut.

However, Rodon’s arrival has seemingly not quashed Mourinho’s desire to sign Skriniar. According to ESPN, the Inter Milan star remains the Tottenham boss’ key target at the back.

It is noted however, that his asking price is £55 million. And ESPN suggests that the majority of Spurs’ January budget is set to come from any potential player sales.

It would be a huge statement if Tottenham could sign Skriniar in January. Mourinho’s men currently top the Premier League table. And they have to now be considered one of the contenders to go on and win the title.

They also have a fantastic opportunity to achieve something in the Europa League.

Signing a player of Skriniar’s calibre in January therefore, could be a game-changer.

Unfortunately, signing the Slovakia international next month may be unlikely – as things stand.
