Report: Mikel Arteta promoted Arsenal youngster ahead of Leeds trip

Football London have claimed that Mikel Arteta has promoted summer addition Nikolaj Moller to first-team Arsenal training ahead of next weekend’s trip to Elland Road to take on Leeds United.

Moller, 18, joined Arsenal on deadline day in the summer from Swedish side Malmo and has been likened to AC Milan legend Zlatan Ibrahimovic given his Swedish nationality – and the similarities in physique.

The lofty striker has since scored three goals in three Premier League 2 matches for Arsenal’s Under-23 side – while also scoring a penalty in a shootout win over League One side Gillingham in the EFL trophy this week.

Now, Moller has been promoted to first-team training with many of Arsenal’s senior side missing due to international duty. Signed for just £450,000 (Goal), he will be hoping he does enough to impress Arteta.

Leeds are next in action against Arsenal, and Moller could showcase why he deserves to be considered for selection against Marcelo Bielsa’s men – who lost 1-0 to Arsenal back in January during an FA Cup game.

TBR’s view – Should Moller be given a chance?

Arsenal have an abundance of options in attack and although he has been promoted to senior training, Moller needs to hold down a place in the Under-23 side before he breaks into the first team.

He has made an excellent start. Three goals in three Premier League 2 games and a penalty in the shootout against Gillingham will fill Arsenal with confidence over their summer addition. A bargain at less than half a million.

But Moller needs to do it on a consistent basis if he is to shine in Arsenal’s senior side.
