Celtic defender Mikael Lustig is expected to leave when his contract expires this summer. And according to Swedish media outlet Expressen, Malmo have offered Lustig a contract.
Malmo play in the Swedish Allsvenskan and can offer him a route back to his home country. Currently sitting top of the Swedish top-flight, Malmo are hoping to regain the title after finishing third in 2018.
Lustig is seen as a player who could strengthen their ranks. He would be available on a free transfer if he ends his seven-year stay with Celtic.
The 75-cap Sweden international has been a loyal servant for Celtic since his 2012 move from Rosenborg. In that time, he has racked up well over 200 appearances for the Glasgow side.
But his performance levels have been less consistent in the last two years. The veteran right-back, who can also play at centre-back, looks set to leave.
Lustig’s contract is due to expire but he has offers from Sweden. The 32-year-old started his career with Sandakerns FK before stints in Sweden with Umea FC and GIF Sundsvall.
His time in Scotland could be approaching its final stages. But Lustig’s career will continue in Scandinavia. He would leave Celtic with eight league titles and seven (possibly eight) cup wins under his belt.
