Tottenham Hotspur may be having trouble convincing Jan Vertonghen to see out the season in North London, but another stalwart at the club appears set to extend his expiring contract to help the cause.

Sky Sports is reporting that Tottenham are currently in negotiations with the Belgian defender regarding an extended stay to play out the season. However, Vertonghen is rightly concerned about such an agreement, considering his future looks to be away from the club.

However, third-choice goalkeeper Michel Vorm has been asked the same question and, according to the report, ‘has agreed’ to stay with Spurs until the season is finished.

Vorm was re-signed by Spurs in October having been released last summer. The 36-year-old was brought back to the club as cover after Hugo Lloris dislocated his elbow.

It was a shrewd decision at the time for Tottenham, with former boss Mauricio Pochettino describing him as ‘a face that we all love’ to Football.London.

But Vorm has played just once since, in the FA Cup defeat to Norwich City, with Paolo Gazzaniga acting as Lloris’ immediate replacement.

But Vorm clearly made a commitment to help Tottenham until the end of the season and is ready to stand by that.

A recent report from Derniere Heure in Belgium suggested that Anderlecht are hoping to sign Vorm on a free transfer once his contract at Spurs does expire. However, that will have to wait.
