Report: Mesut Ozil in discussions to leave Arsenal for DC United

Arsenal midfielder, Mesut Ozil, appears to be on his way out of The Emirates, with negotiations underway over a move to DC United.

Football.London have made the exclusive claim this evening, with the Gunners midfielder open to a move to the MLS.

It is claimed Ozil would be the main man in DC, with the club also open to promoting his off-field activities and using Ozil as a martketing ploy as so many American teams have in the past.

For the midfielder, it would be a chance to get some football back under his belt. Ozil has not played since March and is currently out of the reckoning to play under Mikel Arteta.

Ozil signed for the Gunners in 2013, with then-Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger paying over £40m for the German’s services. Despite being a favourite for a number of years, the German has struggled of late and was outcasted by Mikel Arteta in recent times.

Arsenal needed to move on from the whole Ozil saga and this is a step in the right direction for all parties.

Ozil gets to build his off-field interests while still playing the game, while Arsenal get a massive pay packet off the books in the process and a player who is distracting from on-field matters.

Arteta will be pleased if this goes through and it sets him up nicely for the rest of January.
