Mesut Ozil thinks his Arsenal career is over, according to The Mirror.

Unai Emery has left Ozil out for much of this season, limiting him to just two appearances. Only one of those has been in the Premier League and Ozil is down the pecking order.

With other preferred options in midfield, Emery seems to be preparing for life without Ozil. Despite being settled in North London, the Germany international thinks he might have played his last game for the Gunners.

Ozil joined Arsenal from Real Madrid in January 2013. Since then, he has racked up 233 appearances with 43 goals and 74 assists. But this season has been a struggle. Ozil did not even make the bench for Arsenal’s last two Premier League matches.

And when Emery rotated his squad in the Europa League against Standard Liege, Ozil was still not included. Emery believes other players – such as Joe Willock – deserve chances ahead of the 30-year-old. This could lead to his departure in January.

TBR’s view

Ozil faces a genuine battle to save his Arsenal future. The left-footed playmaker needs to show Emery he has the right attitude and that he can still offer something for the team.

But Arsenal might be thinking prudentially here. Ozil turns 31 next week and his value will start to decrease if he is not moved on soon. But who would take Ozil this January with his extremely high wages?
