Report: Maurizio Sarri to raid Chelsea for £60,000-a-week misfit

Former Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri is back in football with Lazio and is already planning a raid on Chelsea for Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

According to Corriere dello Sport, the ex-Blues incumbent is prepared to take a chance on the youngster.

The attacking midfielder spent last season on loan at Fulham, playing 33 times and scoring a single goal.

His future at Stamford Bridge looks relatively bleak and Thomas Tuchel is preparing to offload him this summer.

Celtic strike Premier Sports deal - is this the "additional value" we've been waiting for?

Loftus-Cheek has a contract with Chelsea until 2024. He would surely jump at the chance to head abroad, however, with first-team football in his sights.

The England player enjoyed his time at Chelsea under Sarri. He fired 10 goals in 40 appearances for the club when the Italian boss was in charge.

During an interview with Sky Sports back in April 2019, Sarri praised the Chelsea player, calling him a ‘complete midfielder’.

With that in mind, the boss moving for him is perhaps no surprise and could provide an attractive option for Loftus-Cheek.

According to the report, Lazio would be looking to do a loan deal and that could suit all parties.

Loftus-Cheek has played 82 times for the Blues and even featured on the first day of 2020/21.

He is in need of a confidence boost though having suffered relegation with Fulham during the most recent season.

Sarri could be just the man to provide that lift and moving to Lazio looks a good move for the player.

Loftus-Cheek facing fight to impress Chelsea

The man with 10 England caps could have already run his race with the Blues.

Tuchel looks unlikely to have him a reprieve and will hope to sign some of his own players this summer.

Some supporters will perhaps feel it’s a shame at how Loftus-Cheek’s career has panned out.

When he burst onto the scene he showed bags of potential but injuries have hampered his progress somewhat.

Heading to Serie A to play under Sarri again could be the perfect situation for the £60,000-a-week player.

If he rediscovers his form, he could earn a permanent move away from Stamford Bridge – and that might suit all parties.
