The Sun have claimed that Mauricio Pochettino is looking to raid Manchester City and bring left-back Benjamin Mendy to Paris Saint-Germain this summer – with the Frenchman continually overlooked by Pep Guardiola this season.
Mendy, 26, has managed just 12 appearances in all competitions this season. His injuries have seemingly affected his chances of having an impact at Manchester City, playing just 65 times since he joined the club in the summer of 2017.
Indeed, the 10-time France international was left out of the matchday squad against Wolves on Tuesday night, and had remained an unused substitute during the 14 previous Premier League matches. His contract at City lasts until June 2023.
The latest report claims Pochettino wants a left-back and will look to bring Mendy back to France, but it remains to be seen if City will be willing to let the ex-Monaco man depart – especially to one of their biggest rivals in the Champions League.
TBR’s view – If City get a decent fee, Mendy needs to go
It is harsh on Mendy. The World Cup winner has faced numerous injury problems and that it might have had a permanent effect is hardly his fault. But that is the life of a footballer, and if he is to get the best out of his career, he needs a move.
Returning to his home country and to a side like PSG will be a huge move for Mendy – and give him the world of confidence. Would he start? PSG already boast Layvin Kurzawa and Juan Bernat – so probably not, but he has the ability to do so.
