Report: Mauricio Pochettino to make Spurs ace his first new signing as Paris Saint-Germain talks advance

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli is reportedly being eyed by Mauricio Pochettino as his first signing once he takes over at PSG, according to The Sun.

Alli, who has been frozen out for much of the season, was handed his first start since 26 November in the midweek League Cup quarter-final tie at Stoke.

Things didn’t go to plan for the 24-year-old, however, as he gave the ball away from which the Potters went on to score an equaliser, though Spurs ran out 3-1 winners in the end.

Mourinho ended up taking the England international off in the 66th minute and criticised him at full time, accusing him of “creating problems for his own team”.

Alli has made just five starts for Spurs in 2020-21 and has twice been replaced at half-time, coming off against Everton in the Premier League and Antwerp in the Europa League.

Meanwhile, former Spurs boss Pochettino is believed to be in advanced talks to take over at PSG following Thomas Tuchel’s Christmas Eve sacking.

And, according to The Sun, Alli has been earmarked as his first signing at the French champions as soon as the January transfer window swings open.

The report doesn’t specify whether a loan deal, as has been previously mooted in terms of links between PSG and Alli, or a permanent transfer is on the cards.

TBR View:

While Alli may have struggled for form at times, the talent and quality is there, as shown by his impressive displays against the likes of Manchester United and Maccabi Haifa.

However, it looks as though Mourinho is losing patience with the England playmaker and there’s an increasing risk that he won’t get many more chances at the club in the foreseeable future.

Therefore, if the above report is true, it could well be a winning deal for all the parties involved.
